Pirates edge Cardinals by 1

Pirates pitcher Joel Hanrahan (3.79 ERA) got the win, while Adam Wainwright (2.18 ERA) took the loss for the Cardinals. Paul Maholm went 6.2 solid innings for the Pirates, allowed 7 hits, one home run and 2 earned runs with one walk and 4 strikeouts. The Cardinals’s starter Adam Wainwright went 7 innings, allowed 7 hits, no home runs and 4 earned runs with 4 walks and 6 strikeouts. Fernando Salas (2.35) also pitched for the Cardinals. With the win, Hanrahan’s record goes to 3-1, while Wainwright drops to 17-8. Evan Meek earned the save for the Pirates, bringing his saves up to 2.

In addition to the 4 runs, the Pirates put up 7 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Pirates, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Albert Pujols had the most hits for the Cardinals (3), followed by Randy Winn (1). Matt Holliday could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base.
