The St. Louis Cardinals faced the the Florida Marlins yesterday at Busch Stadium with the Cardinals winning 11 to 6. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Cardinals tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 17 runs! Talk about excitement!
Cardinals pitcher Blake Hawksworth (2.36 ERA) got the win, while Ricky Nolasco (5.46 ERA) took the loss for the Marlins. Todd Wellemeyer went 4 innings for the Cardinals, allowed 9 hits, one home run and 6 earned runs with one walk and 3 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Cardinals was Dennys Reyes (3.19), Kyle McClellan (2.97), Trever Miller (1.79), and Jason Motte (4.96). The Marlins’s starter Ricky Nolasco went 5 innings, allowed 10 hits, no home runs and 7 earned runs with no walks and 4 strikeouts. Brendan Donnelly (1.74), Renyel Pinto (3.23), Matt Lindstrom (5.83), and Tim Wood (2.04) also pitched for the Marlins. With the win, Hawksworth’s record goes to 4-0, while Nolasco falls to 11-9.
In addition to the 11 runs, the Cardinals managed 17 hits and committed no errors. Colby Rasmus and Skip Schumaker tied for most hits for the Cardinals with 3 hits, followed by Ryan Ludwick with 2 hits. Jason LaRue had a tough day at the plate, leaving 5 runners on base. The Marlins didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Marlins managed 6 runs, 11 hits and 2 errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Tony Randazzo, Chris Guccione, Mike Winters and Jerry Layne. There were 43,582 Cardinals ticket holders in attendance at Busch Stadium.
The win puts the Cardinals at a record of 85-60, still leading their division, while the loss brings the Marlins to 76-68, (7 games behind first place in the division). The Marlins again take on the Cardinals tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
