Cardinals lose to Reds 6-1

The Cincinnati Reds faced off against the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday at Great American Ballpark with the Reds securing the victory 6 to 1. It was a great baseball game that fans with Reds tickets will remember for quite some time.

Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo (3.84 ERA) got the win, while John Smoltz (6.35 ERA) took the loss for the Cardinals. Bronson Arroyo went 8.1 solid innings for the Reds, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and one earned run with one walk and 6 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Reds was Nick Masset (2.44). The Cardinals’s starter John Smoltz went 4 innings, allowed 6 hits, one home run and 6 earned runs with 5 walks and 3 strikeouts. Dennys Reyes (3.12), Josh Kinney (9.42), and Brad Thompson (4.92) also pitched for the Cardinals. With the win, Arroyo’s record goes to 15-13, while Smoltz drops to 3-8.

Laynce Nix provided much of the offense for the Reds with an incredible 4 runs batted in. In addition to the 6 runs, the Reds put up 8 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Reds, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Paul Janish had a tough day at the plate, leaving 5 runners on base. The Cardinals didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Ryan Ludwick could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Cardinals got one run, 5 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Field Culbreth, Brian O’Nora, Adrian Johnson and Gary Cederstrom. There were 11,930 Reds ticket holders in attendance at Great American Ballpark.

The win puts the Reds at a record of 76-82, (14 games behind the division leader), while the loss brings the Cardinals to 90-68, at the top of their division. The Cardinals will try to return the favor tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
