Cardinals lose to Mets 8-2

The New York Mets did battle with the the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday at Citi Field with the Mets victorious 8 to 2. It was a huge win that rooters with Mets tickets aren’t likely to forget.

Mets pitcher Jonathon Niese (3.43 ERA) got the win, while Adam Wainwright (2.23 ERA) took the loss for the Cardinals. Jonathon Niese went 6 innings for the Mets, allowed 7 hits, no home runs and one earned run with 2 walks and one strikeout. Also pitching for the Mets was Manny Acosta (3.29), Raul Valdes (4.04), and Francisco Rodriguez (2.57). The Cardinals’s starter Adam Wainwright went 5 innings, allowed 6 hits, one home run and 6 earned runs with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Fernando Salas (2.31), and Trever Miller (3.86) also pitched for the Cardinals. With the win, Niese’s record goes to 7-4, while Wainwright drops to 14-6.

In addition to the 8 runs, the Mets put up 9 hits and committed 2 errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Mets, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Cardinals didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Aaron Miles could not get much going at the plate as he left 5 runners on base. The Cardinals mustered 2 runs, 10 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Marvin Hudson, Derryl Cousins, D.J. Reyburn and Jim Wolf. There were 37,479 Mets ticket holders in attendance at Citi Field.
