The Florida Marlins got a tough win over the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday at Busch Stadium with the Marlins picking up the W 2 to 1. Wow! What a nail biter! This was a pitchers duel that Sean West and Adam Wainwright will never forget! Fans with Cardinals tickets saw two fantastic pitchers do battle. Marlins pitcher Sean West (4.60 ERA) got the win, while Adam Wainwright (2.59 ERA) took the loss for the Cardinals. Sean West went 6 innings for the Marlins, allowed 6 hits, no home runs and one earned run with 3 walks and 9 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Marlins was Brian Sanches (1.74), and Brendan Donnelly (1.66). The Cardinals’s starter Adam Wainwright went 7 innings, allowed 7 hits, one home run and 2 earned runs with one walk and 8 strikeouts. Trever Miller (1.77), and Mitchell Boggs (4.00) also pitched for the Cardinals. With the win, West’s record goes to 7-5, while Wainwright is at 18-8. Leo Nunez earned the save for the Marlins, bringing his saves up to 21.
In addition to the 2 runs, the Marlins scored 7 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Marlins, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Cardinals didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Matt Holliday could not get much going at the plate as he left 5 runners on base. The Cardinals managed one run, 7 hits and one error.
Umpiring duties were performed by Chris Guccione, Mike Winters, Jerry Layne and Tony Randazzo. There were 42,895 Cardinals ticket holders in attendance at Busch Stadium.
The win puts the Marlins at a record of 77-68, (7 games behind first place in the division), while the loss brings the Cardinals to 85-61, still leading their division. The Cardinals will try to get a game back from the Marlins tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
