Cardinals edge Dodgers by 1

The St. Louis Cardinals barely got a “W” over the Los Angeles Dodgers yesterday at Busch Stadium with the Cardinals winning 5 to 4. Cardinals pitcher Ryan Franklin (3.41 ERA) got the win, while Jonathan Broxton (2.50 ERA) took the loss for the Dodgers. Jeff Suppan went 6 innings for the Cardinals, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and one earned run with one walk and one strikeout. Also pitching for the Cardinals was Mitchell Boggs (2.59), Dennys Reyes (3.46), and Evan MacLane (9.00). The Dodgers’s starter Vicente Padilla went 6 innings, allowed one hit, no home runs and no earned runs with 5 walks and one strikeout. Travis Schlichting (2.60), and Justin Miller (4.44) also pitched for the Dodgers. With the win, Franklin’s record goes to 4-1, while Broxton falls to 3-1.

In addition to the 5 runs, the Cardinals managed 7 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Cardinals, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Matt Holliday had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Dodgers didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Jamey Carroll could not get much going at the plate as he left 6 runners on base. The Dodgers managed 4 runs, 8 hits and no errors.
