The St. Louis Cardinals did battle with the the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday at Miller Park with the Cardinals picking up the W 5 to 1. Also pitching for the Cardinals was Trever Miller (1.86), Jason Motte (5.12), Dennys Reyes (3.38), and Kyle McClellan (3.09). The Brewers’s starter Jeff Suppan went 5 innings, allowed 8 hits, one home run and 4 earned runs with one walk and no strikeouts. Chris Narveson (4.50), and Chris Smith (3.67) also pitched for the Brewers. With the win, Wainwright’s record goes to 18-7, while Suppan is at 6-9.
In addition to the 5 runs, the Cardinals scored 11 hits and committed no errors. Albert Pujols led the Cardinals in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Ryan Ludwick’s 2 hits, and Colby Rasmus with 2. The Brewers didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Brewers managed one run, 6 hits and no errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Sam Holbrook, Gerry Davis, Dan Iassogna and Larry Vanover. There were 26,559 Brewers ticket holders in attendance at Miller Park.
The win puts the Cardinals at a record of 84-57, at the top of their division, while the loss brings the Brewers to 66-73, (17 games behind the division leader).
