The St. Louis Cardinals did battle with the the San Diego Padres yesterday at Busch Stadium with the Cardinals picking up the W 4 to 1. Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright (2.45 ERA) got the win, while Jon Garland (3.55 ERA) took the loss for the Padres. Adam Wainwright went 8 solid innings for the Cardinals, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and one earned run with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. The Padres’s starter Jon Garland went 7 innings, allowed 5 hits, one home run and 4 earned runs with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Ernesto Frieri (1.95) also pitched for the Padres. With the win, Wainwright’s record goes to 19-11, while Garland is at 14-12. Ryan Franklin earned the save for the Cardinals, bringing his saves up to 25.
In addition to the 4 runs, the Cardinals scored 6 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Cardinals, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Padres didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Ryan Ludwick could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Padres managed one run, 6 hits and no errors.
