Cardinals 7 – Reds 3

The St. Louis Cardinals challenged the the Cincinnati Reds yesterday at Great American Ballpark with the Cardinals earning the win 7 to 3. Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter (2.89 ERA) got the win, while Mike Leake (3.75 ERA) took the loss for the Reds. Chris Carpenter went 7 solid innings for the Cardinals, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Cardinals was Trever Miller (4.23), and Kyle McClellan (2.01). The Reds’s starter Mike Leake went 3.2 innings, allowed 9 hits, one home run and 6 earned runs with no walks and 2 strikeouts. Carlos Fisher (5.68), Bill Bray (4.73), and Logan Ondrusek (3.06) also pitched for the Reds. With the win, Carpenter’s record goes to 13-3, while Leake is at 7-4.

Skip Schumaker provided much of the offense for the Cardinals with an incredible 4 runs batted in. In addition to the 7 runs, the Cardinals scored 12 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Cardinals, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Ramon Hernandez had the most hits for the Reds (3), followed by Jonny Gomes (1). The Reds got 3 runs, 7 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Larry Vanover, Mark Wegner, Mark Carlson and Jeff Kellogg. There were 36,353 Reds ticket holders in attendance at Great American Ballpark.
